NRA baby! (that's New River Adventures)

Holy Toledo did I have a blast this weekend!

A mess of friends traveled up to West Virginia to raft the lower New River. Class IV's and a few Class V's, but the most adventure was when I got dumped at the head of Miller's Folly, a lengthy Class IV+ rapid. It began with the raft slamming into a rock, then three of us getting pitched off of the front of the raft, going through a hydraulic that kept me under for 5-6 seconds, then a whole lot of wave skipping, gasping for air, bumping bottom rocks, swimming, more bumping, etcetera for 500 yards or so. Not fun. No time to be scared. Could have been worse. A long swim will give you perspective, the long view.

All in all a supreme adventure. Our raft didn't flip, others did. Truck back to camp for fun and mis-adventure. The highlight of the night had to be the guides introducing us to Edward 40 Hands. How on earth I have never heard of this penultimate drinking game is lost on me. Too much fun, I still chuckle just thinking of it.

William Tell was a riot as well. Every close throw, the crowd would gasp "OHHHHH" like Tiger Woods just missed a 60 foot putt. Hilarious.
