Overhaulin'

Time to overhaul the 'ol Craftsman 100 table saw. This beast was in storage for 5 years, so I had some rust to deal with. I think this is circa 1967 or so, back when men smelled like 3-in-1 oil and table saws were made out of cast iron. Then there was the summer of love and quality tools went straight into the crapper. The drugs make me digress... The ground, cast iron top cleaned up (eventually) and my $$$ pre-crappy-turned-home-improvement-store-making-garbage-out-of-third-world-countries 10" Delta saw blade made it virtually unscathed.

Cheap-ass Congress cast aluminum pulleys. Not worth a damn. This is the cheap way to balance the pulleys - take some weight off of the heavy side.

Much smoother after balancing the pulleys and adding the linkbelt.

Ahh, screw the old aluminum pulleys. I upgraded to a robust transmission with dual-belt, statically balanced cast iron pulleys from Grizzly. Huzzah!

Side note: these pulleys weigh too much for thier single set screw, as I found out during a 45 degree miter cut. The f#@&!ng pulley fell off of the motor shaft! A quick trip to the machine shop (basement) added a second, 1/4-20 set screw beneath the rightmost belt... So far so good.
